Below are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive. If you have others not listed here, please let me know.

regarding,

• life's transitions

• anxiety and depression

• work stress

• health-related issues

• being bountiful

• relationship issues

• sexuality

for the professional community,

• consultation on working with couples

• voice dialogue

• law and ethics

2. What is your availability?

At this time I have one office in Los Altos having closed Palo Alto and San Jose. I see people each day of the week. I do not have office hours on Friday evenings or during the weekend.

On some weekends I offer workshops. Please feel free to include your name on my mailing list to be informed of upcoming workshops in your areas of interest.

3. What is your experience?

In 1972, after I received my Master's degree, I began seeing clients on a part time basis while working on and completing my doctorate degree in 1977.

I started seeing clients full time at that point and have ever since. I have been fortunate to teach other therapists how to do this work. I taught in the masters graduate program at Santa Clara University and in the Ph.D. program at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.

4. Why should I see you versus someone else?

The relationship between a client and a therapist is a personal one. Finding a good fit, a good connection, where you can be yourself is important and can make the work you do all the more productive. While I have substantial experience, and teach other therapists how to work with clients, it is important that you feel comfortable with me or with whomever you see.

5. Do you accept any payments from managed care companies?

At this time, I do not participate in any managed care plans. However, as a licensed psychologist many plans will pay for services to the people they insure for what is called an out-of-network provider at a different rate than those covered in their group. Sometimes this is a benefit for you.

Some managed care plans say they will pay for approved visits but they will not approve visits. Therefore, they pay zero for visits not approved.

However, if there is an out-of-network benefit, you may receive services at that rate, to the maximum they pay, for as long as you and I feel that is necessary.

6. What is the difference between an Ed.D. degree and a Ph.D. degree?

My Ed.D. degree is a doctorate in counseling. When I went to graduate school, there was a choice of a seeking a Ph.D. or an Ed.D. degree. Many psychologists who were planning to work in a psychiatric medical setting, typically a hospital, chose the Ph.D. route. Psychologists who were planning to work with people in the community chose to get an Ed.D. degree.

When I moved to California and applied for licensing, the Board of Psychology evaluated my course work and internships. They determined that I was eligible to apply for a license as a psychologist which I received in January, 1980. The other option would have been applying for a license as an educational psychologist. I did not do that because my course work was in counseling [not in education] and thus, am licensed as psychologist which includes counseling and clinical psychology.

I know this can be confusing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

7. What are your fees?

My fees are dependent on the services provided. I will be happy to discuss them with you.

8. What is your cancellation policy?

I make every effort to honor all time commitments and request that you extend the same courtesy to me, notifying me of a cancellation, AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE, Monday through Friday. As is customary, my policy is to charge for late cancellations and non-appearance.

Please call or send me an e-mail with questions. To schedule an appointment, please contact me by telephone at 650/941.9000.
